David Archer, the Provincial Grand Registrar, was initiated as a Lewis into Spen Vale Lodge 4515 in 1982.  Four years later he became a joining member of Howley Lodge 5012 where he went through the Chair in 2003-04.  David’s first promotion in Province was in 2010 when he became Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies – a position he held for two years - before becoming Past Provincial Deputy Grand Registrar.  David’s next acting office came in 2015 when he became Provincial Grand Sword Bearer, following which he was made Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden.  In 2020 he was promoted to Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden and in 2025 to Past Assistant Grand Standard bearer.  David returned to Spen Vale Lodge in 2021 as Lodge Liaison Officer before the Lodge returned its warrant in 2022.  He has been a Companion of Scarborough Chapter 1214 since 1984.

In 2011 David was asked to become the Assistant Editor of the White Rose Masonic News and he served in this capacity until 2022, mainly involved in proof-reading articles for the magazine.  A couple of years later the Provincial Grand Mentor asked David if he would be the first point of contact in the Province for all internet enquiries, a position he still holds to this day.  Shortly afterwards David was asked if he would also carry out exit surveys for those Brethren who resigned from their Lodges.

When the Members’ Pathway was introduced in 2017 David was appointed Deputy Provincial Membership Officer and, together with the Provincial Grand Membership Officer, set about building a Membership Team and rolling-out the Pathway in the Province.  In his role as Deputy Provincial Membership Officer David continued to develop the internet enquiry system and he introduced a new resignation protocol whereby all resigning Brethren are contacted by their Lodge Liaison Officer to discuss their resignation and to thank them for their contribution to the Province.

David was asked to become Provincial Grand Registrar in 2022.  In this role he continues to be first point of contact for internet enquiries and also to oversee the resignation protocol for the Province.  David provides membership statistics for all meetings of the Provincial Advisory Council and for the Annual Provincial Meeting in Harrogate.  He also chairs meetings of the Principal Pathway Officers Committee, which is made up of the Provincial Grand Membership Officer, Mentor and Almoner with the support of the Learning & Development Officer, along with representatives from the Royal Arch.

David is very much a family man with a wife, two sons and their wives, and two grandchildren who try to meet up weekly to enjoy a meal together. In his spare time David enjoys playing golf and has a keen interest in classic cars; being the proud owner of an ex-army military lightweight Land Rover.  Along with his wife, he is also a member of the Leeds Musical Theatre Choir.  For many years David was a Trustee and volunteer with the Kirklees Adventure Trust, raising funds to support young people and young adults to take part in adventurous activities, especially with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.  At any one time the Trust supports around 4500 young people in Kirklees, many of whom have special needs.
